Today we had our first rotation of maths group. We have been working on adddition of numbers up to 20 as well as the concept of __more than e.g make 5 more than any number.Today we learnt the new games-Bump,4 in a row and racing dice.As well we used the playdough to demonstrate more than.Have a look at our pictures.

This week we have been learning about fractions.We know that they are a part of a whole and that the bigger the number of parts the smaller each part is.
Today we looked at the number line and discovered that if you add you move forward and if you take away you go backwards.

Today we took the camera outside to look for shapes and lines in our environment .Some of our photos taken by students were amazing.We found lots and lots of different shapes and lines in the man made things in our secret garden.

Today we looked at using informal units to measure ourselves.We measured our feet to fin d things bigger and smaller than this measure.Then we used paper to measure how tall we were.We then used our keen sense of observation to place our heights in order.

Today we were learning about telling the time. One of the children asked why do we have to learn analogue time when we have digital time.Then another asked how did they tell the time before clocks were made.We researched sundials and looked at some pictures of old sundials.We then went into the playground and investigated how a sundial worked by tracing our shadows and coming back to see what has happened to it at different times of the day. The children now have an awareness of the sun's path throughout the day and can see how this can be used to tell the time.

Today we looked at the art of M.C.Escher. He used tessellating shapes to make his pictures.We used this as inspiration to create own own tessellating artworks.
